Licensing
Moana Financial Services provides financial advice under the Financial Advice Provider licence held by Moana Financial Services Limited FSP number 1011123
What we advise on
We provide financial advice in four areas:
KiwiSaver - choosing the right fund, contribution strategies, provider selection, first home withdrawals, and planning for retirement.
Investments - investment strategy, managed funds, and building a portfolio to grow and manage your wealth.
Mortgages & Residential Lending - home loans for first home buyers, refinancing, restructuring, and other residential lending.
Personal Risk Insurance - life insurance, income protection, trauma/critical illness cover, total and permanent disablement (TPD) cover, and medical insurance.
Who we work with
We provide advice on products from a selected range of providers:
KiwiSaver & Investments: Kernel Wealth, Generate, Pathfinder, Booster, Simplicity
Mortgages: ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, SBS, Cooperative Bank, Heartland Bank, TSB, Unity, Avanti, PepperMoney
Personal Risk Insurance: AIA, Partners Life, Nib, Asteron, Chubb
We only advise on products from the providers on our approved list - not every product available in the market. If something outside our range would suit you better, we'll tell you. If you need advice on something we don't cover (such as business insurance, commercial lending, or estate planning), we're happy to refer you to a specialist.
What it costs
KiwiSaver & Investments: I generally do not charge you a fee if you decide to take our advice. The provider may pay us a commission if you decide to take up our advice regarding your KiwiSaver. Some providers do not pay commission, but will facilitate a fee for the advice that we provide to you. This fee will that will be paid to us (Moana Financial Services Limited).
Mortgages: We don't usually charge you a fee. When your loan settles, the lender pays us a commission. In some cases a fee may apply (for example, if a loan is repaid early and the lender claws back our commission) - we'll always agree any fee with you first.
Personal Risk Insurance: We don't usually charge you a fee. When a policy is put in place, the insurer pays us a commission. If a fee ever applies, we'll discuss it with you in advance. Before we give you advice, we'll always tell you about any fees or commissions that apply to your situation - so you'll know what you're paying (if anything) before you go ahead.
Managing conflicts of interest
We may receive commissions from lenders and insurers when you take out a product we've recommended. To make sure this never improperly influences our advice, we:
- Always put your interests first
- Follow an advice process based on your needs and goals - not on what a product pays us
- Keep a conflicts of interest register and review it regularly
- Have our advice reviewed regularly to ensure it prioritises your outcomes
As a business arm of a charitable trust, our purpose goes beyond profit. If we ever spot a conflict that could affect our advice, we'll tell you.
